Yizhan Gu is a 1st-year PhD student in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of California, San Diego. He is affiliated with the Center for Energy Research and the Grid Lab under the supervisor of Professor Jan Kleissl.

High School

Born in Suzhou, China, Yizhan spent his junior and senior high time at Suzhou High School of Jiangsu Province. He took the place of Vice President of the Single Band Club and was a member of the table tennis team.

Higher Education

Yizhan got his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Automation at Harbin Institute of Technology, which is ranked 5th in Best Global Universities for Engineering in 2024. He did the final year project under the supervisor of Professor Dazhi Yang, and the final paper was accepted by Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. Yizhan has also helped in the research project with State Grid Heilongjiang Electric Power Co. LTD for the evaluation of solar resources in Heilongjiang, which has been published to the public.

After graduating from HIT, Yizhan was admitted to UCSD in 2023 August and joined the Center for Energy Research. He supported the charging flexibility research for TotalEnergies and the UCSD DERConnect project. Currently, he is working on the optimization of Electric Vehicle charging problems, and applying forecasting techniques to controllers.
